“Light it up blue on April 2” was a sasse agency pro-bono PR and community outreach campaign for the DC Chapter of Autism Speaks. Working with Shelly Galli, who spearheaded the DC-based events, sasse agency was asked to volunteer PR for the autism campaign two months prior to Autism Awareness month in an effort to specifically garner attention for two events, “Light It Up Blue” (an international awareness campaign in cities throughout the world on April 2) and DC’s inaugural fundraising gala (April 26). With no time or funding, a website or even a Facebook presence, sasse agency kicked into gear with press releases that focused not only on the DC-specific events but also Shelly Galli’s own personal story of success with her now teen, autistic daughter, an athlete and involved community member. sasse agency not only created local story angles for the local media, provided interviews with parents as well as information about autism-friendly businesses in the DC area, but also secured local businesses to take part in “Light it up Blue.”
